Jane, I am not much of a pagan, really. I don't believe in worshipping pagan gods or goddesses. There are some things in the so-called "modern pagan" movement that attract me, but they are basically the more environmental issues--reverence for the earth, etc. The moon and the earth and the trees and all that are beautiful, and have nothing evil in them at all. Some people do not realize that pagans today are mostly monogamous, and a lot of them are vegetarians, and they are very concerned with preserving as much of the variety of plant and animal life on earth as possible. They are really gentle, peaceful people. They do not worship anyone evil, and do not hurt others in any way. They are certainly not heathens, a term which is associated with savagery in some way. I am basically a mother and a wife. I am monogamous in my marriage, and I am rearing my daughter with good moral standards. I don't cheat or steal or lie, and I am teaching her the same way. For amusement, I garden. We take care of cats and kittens for the animal shelter here, when the mother cats have been abandoned with tiny kittens and need a place to stay where someone will play with the kittens and make sure they are sweet and lovable so people will adopt them when they are a couple of months old. Not very exciting, and no strange rituals!! My husband is Catholic, and we have crosses and Bibles in our home. I do sometimes show urls about all sorts of subjects. Sometimes a url will have something very interesting contained within it, something that will spark discussion, something controversial. Sometimes they reflect my own personal beliefs, but not all the time. I am a very open person, and like to discuss all sorts of things. But I don't think that makes me a bad person. There is some pretty ribald joking at Feelings that probably seems evil if you come from a very conservative Christian background. But most of the people who write over there are very happily married, men and women, or are decent single people, and are just good writers who are playing around with words. Frankly, I like to keep the atmosphere light so that it does not turn into another thread like this. There are quite a few Christians over there, but most of them are moderate, and do not take the Bible literally. As far as Hitler goes, I have read a lot about his background. He was Catholic as a child, and did want to be a priest. Later, he became involved in other things. My only point about his Catholicism would be that being reared as a Christian is not any kind of guarantee that a child will turn out all right. Oh, and also that much of what Hitler did to the Jews was motivated by long standing hatred of the Jews which was influenced strongly by anti-Semitism in the New Testament. Historically, this happened because the early Christians realized the Jews wanted to stay the way they were, instead of become Christians, and so a lot of negative stuff about them got put in the Bible by MEN who were angry at them, and who hoped they would embrace Jesus as the only King of the Jews. What they wrote was political, and had nothing to do with God's feelings about anything, but millions of people ended up dead, partially because the Christians in Europe were prejudiced against them and allowed it all to happen. My daughter has no religious beliefs at all, which is what she decided, but she would never dream of shoplifting or having an abortion. My main belief is that what religion you are, or whether you are religious at all, has very little to do with whether you are a good person. I hope this helps you understand me a little better!!! I am no one you need to be afraid of, Jane.
