Hi Dwight:

Okay, you asked for it! Hemingway is one of my favorite authors, its makes me sad to think that he ended his own life, when he had so much talent and so much to say. I don't understand how he could be so intelligent and complex, but unable to find ways to deal with his own emotional and spiritual pain.

Of course, I have read that the mental illness is hereditary in the Hemingway family tree, because many family member have committed suicide. There was a documentary on TV, not long ago about his great grand niece, Meriux(sp) Hemingway. They are not sure if she committed suicide, but the investigation into her death, indicates she did. It was very sad to watch what she went through, both her and Muriel Hemingway have those sad eyes that reflect their pain so clearly..

I'm going to post a quote on another message...

Carol

If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.
