I don't know if there was more that 1 method of DVD, but remembering all of the different methods that surround the CD-R/WR implementation, I can understand there is some reluctance. Also the first units available are really 'spendy' only to have 'deep' discounts later. The software manufacturers probably won't distribute until the DVD drives are sold in the 'default' configuration. I am not sure that all of the DVD drives can 'read' all of the CD formats. I thought that I read that one of the formats was not readable by the DVD drive.

I agree that this technology is a definite step forward!
