Well, when it comes to biotech deals, I actually know quite a bit about them and how they work, collaborations and all. The tendency is for the small company to get too excited too early about working with large pharmaceutical firms because the large firms are giant red tape machines. So you have the junior wanting to make announcements because that might get their stock up so they can raise money but the major says no and there is no "material" change...and so forth for weeks or months on end...the investors get really excited and bid the stock up in anticipation of announcements and you get these non-announcement type news releases over and over, so on a run up, these things are easy to short.
