When a stock hits a new high on heavy volume, it is going much higher. Any short that does not cover his position after such an upmove needs to have his head examined.

Sometimes you don't have a choice....margin calls dictate when most shorts cover....random thought: volume is at an alltime high today, in theory it is already high enough for every short position to have been covered.....now what will hold it up???.........;^)
