Wrong!, AOL has been trialing cable for more than 2 years. I am sure if you search hard enough you will come across some of the folks that connect to AOL via cable.

Mark,
The following was taken from a 4/8/98 open letter by Steve Case on AOL's Broadband access..

"Also helping us reach toward the full potential of this medium are new technologies -- particularly the developing broadband technologies that will provide faster access. To that end, we just announced that AOL is the first national Internet online service to offer consumer field tests of the high-speed xDSL broadband services. With this new technology, you can achieve transmission speeds as much as 25 times faster than a standard 28.8K modem -- and have an "instant on" connection always available. The initial xDSL field trials will be available in Birmingham, AL; Phoenix, AZ; the Greater Bay Area, CA; the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC; and Redmond, WA.

This is just one of several high-speed technology options we are working on for our members, as cable and wireless technologies are also of interest. Our goal is to work with a variety of technologies and a range of vendors to foster a competitive broadband marketplace so that our members will eventually have access to a range of reasonably priced, easy-to-install, and easy-to-use high-speed technologies."
