NB98.14-3] The US Department of Commerce (DOC)
has issued its bi-annual uranium price calculation as required
under the Kazakhstan suspension agreement. As at 1 April the price
was US$11.76 per pound, derived by taking their average spot
price of US11.62, and weighing it 79.31% against an average
long-term contract price of US$12.29. With the price under the
US$12.00 floor, as set out under the amended suspension
agreement, Kazakhstan is no longer able to export uranium into the
US for the period 1 April to 30 September 1998. The price will be
recalculated on 1 October. (Ux Weekly, 6 April, p4; see also News
Briefing 97.50-2 and 96.41-2)
