The brief answer to your question is that deep drilling projects are typically multi-year contracts so that there is more predictability to their earnings. This is a bigger deal in a low oil price environment where there is more concern about drilling cutbacks that might translate into less demand for drilling rigs. The deep projects will be the last to feel cutbacks.
