Thread: The smart money made a buck and a half today. To all those who say that the "market" must "know something" when the stock goes down, does it "know something" when it goes up, too? I was just about to concede that the coming long weekend just before earnings would shake out the nervous nellies and there would be no reprieve for the bulls until the CC, and then, bang, reason reasserted itself with a swagger at the end of the day.

Just suppose that the new "conventional" wisdom of the last ten working days is wrong that BAY is going to fall short of its revised figures, just suppose that House was right when he said the revised figures are not in danger of downard revision when he spoke a three short weeks ago, just suppose that earnings do no worse than a couple of cents below those revised figures, just suppose they actually do better than expected, just suppose that the positive tone of the last CC a few weeks ago is repeated in the earnings CC in a few days time, - where will the stock price be this time next week?

I will leave it for others to "just suppose" the bearish possibilities - there are lots on the thread lately doing that.

The battle of the bears and bulls will re-commence tomorrow, perhaps the pressure of the weekend will reassert itself and the bears will make progress, but watch the final hour to see if the smart money is positioning itself at the time of maximum uncertainty before earnings.

Good night from Europe - I have to sort out Northern Ireland now.
