Roy,

<<<Even if these switch vendors get to the "Holy Grail" of $500 per port the high volume players need ot get their environments ready for Fabrics, which is not a trivial matter.>>>

I don't think anybody here thought that it's a trivial task to integrate FC fabric into these high volume players's clustering scheme of servers/RAIDs. On the contrary, it's this complexity of the whole solution which lead me to believe that for any new startups other than Brocade and Ancor to get into FC switch business is very tough. You have to agree that the servers/Storage industry is moving full steam ahead into using FC. Brocade and Ancor will succeed.
Question to you, why $500 per port is that important? Thanks.

KJ

Roy,

Don't give away your business plan, but do you expect G2 to enter the Fibre Channel switch market at some point? Will you try to push the entry point down to that $500 per port level, or will that remain the domain of hubs?

Thanks in advance.

Craig

Roy,

Interesting post. thanks. I think Ken at Ancor kind of talked about how its first the UNIX guys late this year and then NT folk that will jump into the FC second half next year. I assume the NT FC fabric side will be much cheaper/port by then and your talk makes a lot of sense on some fronts. While the hub may be the sweet spot, it is still very important to realize that the switch is where things seem to evolve to on the network. The same will happen with FC SANs, I believe. You, KJ, Craig, and others here understand this much better than me. :-)

all imho
