Primestar needs equipment by June.............................

mediacentral.com

FCC officials couldn't be reached for comment last week. But they're believed to be looking into how strongly Primestar has competed for subscribers in cabled areas up until now.

Even if Primestar does receive the approvals it needs from the Justice Department and the FCC, they may not come in time to do the company any good this year: Analysts say Primestar must have the obstacles cleared by early June to launch its satellites, order its equipment and place its hardware in the stores in time for the lucrative holiday shopping season.

"Realistically, the benchmarks are Memorial Day and Labor Day," said Steve Blum, president of Tellus Venture Associates, a satellite TV consulting firm. "If [the equipment is] not there by Labor Day, you're behind the eight-ball."
