Gary, Are you a Cisco sales rep? And you have a long position in Yurie, at least until Q4? If this is all true, I think that is reason enough to buy more Yurie. Thanks, Keith

<..They make ATM concentrators..>

And "best of class" ones they are.

<..Rather, he used the term remote access concentrator to discuss the demand for ISP dial modem POP's...>

Re-reading, you are correct. In this article he refered to remote access concentrators which I agree are dial-ups and occasionally ISDN, and likely NOT refering to ATM access concentrators. However, since xDSL IS to start sometime this year, and it will largely be over ATM, this may have been his meaning (see, for instance nwfusion.com )

Needless to say, however, Stix has NOT mellowed his very bullish opinion on YURI for the emerging ATM access market. Send me your address and I'll make sure you get his recent (March) 23 pg report.

<...and regarding your comment about end to end ATM and the ITU.... nice try but nearly every carrier is moving to IP nets on the edges... some even in the core...>

In fact, most major carriers (eg., AIT, T, BEL, BLS, GTE, MCIC, SBC, FON, TCGI, USW, and WCOM) are planning on deploying tarrifed T1 ATM and IMA, which will allow enterprise voice over data with no voice delay/jitter and no data cell loss.

Further, I am doubtful (though open to the possibility) that a public ILEC (this would NOT include QWST, WMB, LVLT, etc) would ignore the ITU-T and NOT use the international carrier agreed ATM end-end in the buildout of the BISDN.

In any case, there seems to be this growing datacom consensus that "...for jobs such as linking PBXs via trunk lines, ATM's circuit emulation was the way to do it..."

from nwfusion.com

and "...Silicon Valley- The market for ATM access concentrator equipment is expected to nearly double in 1998 as carriers and enterprise users increase their overall use of ATM equipment, Dataquest Inc. predicted last week..."

from techweb.com

As far as YURI's "long term life", as I CONTINUE to acknowledge, if YURI is bought out in 99, that'd be fine with me. In the meantime, if you are long as you say, enjoy the squeeze as we move into Q2 and then H2 and (conservatively) the mid to upper 30s.

BTW, any thoughts why Stix doesn't consider MC3810 as ATM access competition?
