Good Evening, Gene...

About to begin my Great Boston/Springfield/Manchester
adventure. But, wanted to check in.

It was a good, rousing day for SEEKers. No, we didn't
perform like XCIT. But, where's the news in that?

We were mentioned favorably on CNBC this afternoon.
The undervaluation story--now seeming as old as Beowulf--
is being trotted out to new crowds. And to our profit
no doubt.

But, one shadow on this day. I am waiting, waiting,
waiting for the NEXT clear sign that SEEK is creatively
approaching its business. The last sign was the Memorandum
of Understanding with Deutsche Telekom. In the meantime,
XCIT keeps skipping, IMHO, ahead with interesting deals
and new strategic alliances.

On the event horizon, tourists...

* Some sort of NSCP resolution.

* Earnings release. (Now, I think it will be
a surprise, BUT NOT A SHOCK. Still, good news...
beating Street estimates.)

* The imponderables: another upgrade, or another
major deal.

What I want though, overweening sort that I am,
is for SEEK to strike some sort of masterful STRATEGIC
ALLIANCE that could possibly obviate the need or eliminate
the desire for a NSCP alliance. (But, as oft repeated, I also want time with
Isabella Rosellini... but the restraining order seems to
be a bit of an obstacle.)

No, when mentioning this alliance, I don't mean
something with a MAJOR TELECOM PROVIDER. (My guru
license remains out of reach.) I DO mean some sort
of co-branding venture or arrangement or outright purchase
of a site that has a strong, established community--perhaps something
in "gamer" land or "movie" land. SEEK needs COMMUNITY
BUILDERS on their site. (As I write this, I am utterly
aware of the fact this message is posted on what is
arguably the PREMIER community site on the Web. Bar
none. Unless you count that little known Usenet
newsgroup, "alt.binary.I.was.just.helping.that.sheep.
over.the.fence")

SEEK is weak on the COMMUNITY front. Thus, when
they actually finish the revamping of their STOCKS area--
with the much-awaited addition of message boards--they
will take a step in the right direction. But, SEEK,
outside of her die-hard investors, has yet to create
a SEEKER class of folks... self-identified and stuck
on SEEK.

Best Regards and Good Holidays,

c m
