Mike: the length of time anyone has held a stock is irrelevant to the decision to remain invested or to sell; the only thing that matters is whether, as of today, you expect the stock to go up or down within a given time frame that is acceptable to you. The past is gone and done with.
With respect to Mr. Maller's (thanks for the correction)wife, chances are that Wood Gundy have a code of ethics which would require her to abstain to be involved in decisions where she has a potential conflict of interest; and if there is no stated code of ethics, she would probably do that anyway, if she is smart, in order not to jeopardize her VP job.
Did you keep statistics showing that Wood Gundy are brokers for a disproportionate portion of selling transactions? How do you determine that Wood Gundy are selling for their own account and not for the account of their customers who may be liquidating positions at a price satisfactory to them (they may want to realize a profit)?
Cheers.
