Jfred, I'd heard that about the dog on "The Little Rascals." If you can believe this, I have never even seen that show. I've heard the RCA Victor dog was a pit bull, but in looking at that dog's picture I think it more likely that it was a smooth Fox Terrier. Bouvier des Flandres are indeed elegant and regal dogs with very long legs. The ones I've seen are absolutely huge, larger than a large German Shepherd. They are highly versatile and what German Shepherds used to be before they were bred for numbers over temperament and health. Bouviers can be trained with great ease to be anything you want theme to be. Also, unlike German Shepherds, Bouviers do not shed, a major plus, at least to my way of thinking. I don't know about the Belgian dogs being used to pull milk carts but it wouldn't surprise me. Dogs have always been used to perform various work functions. I think the Belgian breeds are used extensively in the military and in police work in Europe. Only in America are dogs other than German Shepherds discouraged from such duty. BTW, I read your post to CGB. Take care how you speak of John Muir, for he is a much revered being around these parts. Everywhere you go up here, something has been named for the venerable John Muir--freeways, bridges, roads, roadside rests, woods, parks, reservoirs, wildlife preserves, hospitals, restaurants, stores, museums, cemetaries, you name it. He's real big around Yosemite too. Holly
