Apple to unveil software strategy in May
CUPERTINO, Calif., April 9 (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc. said interim chief executive Steve Jobs will outline the company's software strategy at its worldwide developer conference next month.
Jobs will give the keynote address on May 11 at 0900 PDT/1600 GMT to announce its software strategy to the worldwide community of Macintosh developers, Apple said.

Apple may disclose a new software product in the works with a strategy similar to Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT - news), said Lou Mazzucchelli, a Gerard Klauer Mattison & Co analyst.

''I think you will hear about a lightweight Mac OS (Macintosh operating system) like Windows CE,'' he said.

Jobs previously has said that Apple's Rhapsody operating system, currently in development, would be aimed at high-performance Macs and network servers, similar to the market for Microsoft's Windows NT operating system, while the Macintosh operating system will continue as the desktop operating system software.

Apple said it does not comment on unannounced products. The five day developer conference will cover all aspects of Apple's technology and business, marketing initiatives and future hardware directions, the company said.
