John and Roy,

I called up Benz's Investor Relations Manager, Mark Kahil, today in Houston and got a general update on what Benz is currently doing ....to sum it up they are really jumping! Right now they are drilling a Cotton Valley Reef test in Leon Co., TX, about to AFE partners for a second well on their Oakvale Dome discovery (in the Hosston Sand) in Mississippi and in two or three weeks start the 3D shoot at Old Ocean Field in Brazoria Co., TX.

The Old Ocean project excites me for several reasons. One, because they recently hired a geoscientist who worked at Meridian and contributed to their REALLY LARGE deep pool discovery at Chocolate Bayou Field (also in Brazoria Co.) just last year. Two, because Old Ocean is on a major productive structure and therefore is a great place to look for additional potential. And finally, there has been no effort to develop or explore the property for the last 20 years or so (just like Chocolate Bayou).

I plan to visit Benz's offices later this week and get a feel for their staff and hopefully see some of the projects that are already tied up. Plans for 1998 are suppose to be ten wells exposing the company to a total of 550 BCFG (including equivalent liquids) potential.

John,

They've just put out a slew of releases reporting positive developments and this news has not gone unnoticed (price is up about 40% from its low). But from what I understand there is a lot more upside to this turkey.

The stock would need to nearly triple (to C$1.70) before the $30 mm in bonds they recently issued can be converted into stock. So you gotta just think of that stuff as debt at this point.

Wondering if you are still following them and what do you think at this point.
