THis too was a possibility in SEEQ's rise Thurs:

As reported by the TechWeb website:

NetVantage Rises On Cabletron Buyout Reports
Reports that Cabletron may buy Ethernet switch manufacturer NetVantage
caused a jump in the company's share price during early trading on the
Nasdaq Thursday. NetVantage's share price was up 14 percent at 10:58
a.m. EDT from its opening price of $8.75.

Bottom feeding or market manipulator? This is the question we must ask ourselves about Murphy and CTSL picks. One time (on the subscriber phone line), he addressed the issue of a particular stock being primed for a big jump. He flat out stated he could not time things very well on particular stocks and price fluctuations.

The guy claims to be a value investor. This seems a little contradictory in today's tech stocks, but a true value investor isn't concerned about holding a stock for a couple of years. Last time I checked, CTSL picks were in the portfolio for about 300 days. The picks aren't bad for volatility plays, but the guy, smart as he is, couldn't pick a bottom if his life depended on it.

And like we wouldn't sell a stock that had a 20% pop on one day's trading (SEEQ 4/9/98)!
