Bearded one, I do not know the actual PSR of the Nikkei when it hit 40,000, the PE was 80, and I would surmise that since Corporate Japan was always after sales rather than profits during that period of "market share at any cost" that their margins were much thinner than S&P and thus their PSR might have been comparable. Maybe the comparison should be to their then GDP and ours now.

Bearded One -- According to an article (What goes up ..) in the latest Newsweek (dated April 13, 1998... page43):

Japanese Market 1989 level P/E was 67.... this was the time when Japanese P/E was at its highest... hope this helps.
