Anyone thought about declaring their RMIL to be deductible as a worthless stock?? Apparently, you are not necessarily required to sell the stock as in a cabinet sale. The only advantage is that you are basically betting your stock will continue to be worthless. Should it return to value, you would have to file an amended tax return.

I'm looking at doing this (accountant is researching it) to offset some capital gains and if my stock happens to return to a semblance of value, then I can adjust my taxes owed accordingly.

It would be nice to push some tax obligations into 1998 if possible, for us.

Regards,

Ron
