Didn't we already learn that US Bancorp didn't buy shares, but simply holds shares in trust for others? Didn't we learn that US B's filing was actually unnecessary and therefore erroneous?

Re: Open market buys? I would doubt any of this ownership came about in this way. These probably accrued over time in various compensation structures. BWDIK. -kgo

1997 Proxy Statement shows Walter Scott owned 3,393,374 pre-split shares of Class D plus another 2,040,156 held in irrevocable trusts for children. That would account for about 17 million shares after the split plus 10.2 million in the trusts.
