Guns and fear. Yah. I must admit - when I got my first gun, its sinister potential did a number on me too. Working with it, shooting it, learning to never Never point it at anything of value or heart rate - these things demystified guns for me. But I still respect the things tremendously. Even the .22- I Never Never point - and so on. And when I pick it up, even after five minutes - It's Loaded, Stupid. So I clear the chamber just as a reflex.
Many people I know have a similar inherent dread/mistrust of guns, because even just sitting there they have a hurt/kill atmosphere about them. Well, I'm all for the right to own guns. But (something that the more strident boosters of the Second Amendment don't always grasp) I'm all for the right to notown'em. No sense assuming that responsibility if you don't want to.
