ToySoldier, I think Schmidt has a good point.

Once the current 3.x customers and 3.x/NT fencesitters see the product roadmap that the good Dr. has laid out they'll start to move. Many won't be ready to go to NetWare 5.0 and will want to wait for 5.10, 5.11 etc.

But those customers will begin to see the power of NDS and want to start reaping some of the benefits. They can upgrade now to 4.11 and get a very stable robust platform, then move to 5.x later.

"once customers see a new roadmap, they are more comfortable in extending the franchise and slowly and carefully moving forward. The software industry is a software futures market."

This is the key point. The roadmap has been laid out and looks very good. NetWare 5.0 will be a very, very good NOS and NDS just keeps getting better. Plus the support for Java on the server and ConsoleOne. Plus the announced support for Merced when it ships. It all comes together as a single long-term, unified direction - something that Novell has never really had before.

My .02
