Vi--

What do you think would be the really appropriate form of government for Russia?

The best thing in the past seems to have been an enlightened autocrat, but human nature being what it is (curruptible and unstable) autocrats are more likely to become monsters than angels.

To judge from the example of France, it might take another hundred years before the country can settle into some kind of civilized stability.

I often think how strange it is that under conditions of great hardship and oppression, including official censorship, Russia produced a greater body of literature and music (falling short only in painting) than any other country, in the last century.

I feel sorry for the memory of Nikita Kruschev. What a cheerful survivor he was, and so sure, "We will bury you!"
