Multimedia production!

We Toast CD's like water! They are fantastic for distributing files, audio, video, graphics, etc. We don't even mess with multisession. I handle mostly Pro-Tools audio, and some Avid editing- all to fixed hard drives. The graphics and HTML guys have been fed up with their Jaz drives for some time, and rarely if ever use them anymore. In fact, our HTML guy bought a SyJet because he was so sick of the unreliability of his Jaz. He had trouble installing the SyJet, was displeased by SyQuest's customer service, returned the SyJet, and has since bought an extra 9 Gig hard drive. Now he doesn't use Jaz or SyJet. All of the files are burned onto CD-R for distribution, archive, or one-off. Our Macs are all ethernet, so internal file distribution is pretty easy.

John,

I have to disagree. CDR has it place, but not for everyone. It is great for achiving, back-up etc. But for the present time it is slow.(low cost drives that is)

But ZIP has it's place as well. Zip, in my opinion is a media that could be used by anyone. From the novice to the power user.

Rocky's posts saying that Iomega doesn't know what they are doing is Hog Wash. It is like saying Apple computer is going to go down the drain. NOT. These companies have proved to ME that they are inovative and can adapt to change.

The bears will have there day when the next market correction comes along. Which I believe is very soon.

In My Opinion.

John: Snip from Cramer column re overvalued stuff re IOM:

Or Iomega. Maybe they had a big lead when the stock was selling for ten times what it is worth now. But Kim Edwards did not execute. That is why the stock fell apart, not because it wasn't worth anything when it sold at $50.

>> By the way, have you ever tried to record data to a CD-R, download again, and then write to the same disk? <<

You can do that in 2 ways.

1) multi-session writing.
2) packet writing.

Take a look at new generation of Adaptec CDR burning software and you will be amused on the ease-of-use and reliability.

CD-R is the perfect archival storage medium. Actually the media is getting cheap enough that you can even use it for regular backups!
