S,

>>>>>>1. I thought it was generally expected here on the thread that
Dell goes down after a split, its about my only area of agreement with bears(ggg)
2. Dell almost always goes down after huge volume days, which
often occur just before splits. As long as Dells volume stays about
the same as now, I feel reasonably assured its not heading for the cellar.
3. I have followed many splits, and had a rule to sell very
soon after the actual stock split as it often goes down in price for the next few weeks.
True for Dell also, but I NEVER sell Dell ( it will come
back, outrageous taxes, can't time when to get back in)
4. Rules are meant to be broken, if I sell after a split and a stock still looks good and continues on up I just buy it again.
5. Dells price has a life of its own, stay away for one day and
and it can go up 2 1/2 to 6 points (it usually goes up (hehehe)
for no obvious reason. My explanation for it ( right or wrong), is that institutions want it in their portfolio and when
they decide to buy it the price goes up.

Now THAT answers my questions! Stocks act differently, and you who have seen it before have that historical data at hand!

You make me feel better! I was under the impression that the stock would rise after the split, but I guess that was due to the actions of other stocks, not DELL. Since I trade in a 'tax sheltered' account, I can easily move to another stock (like LU) while DELL stabilizes. I realized about 5% on LU. (would have been more if I had sold LU at $75 instead of riding it 'down' after its split 'ride up')

I am currently 'heavy DELL' as I am waiting for the earnings to be released. Do you think it would be 'safe' to try to 'maximize' gains between now and earnings release? (Assuming you had NO TAX LIABILITY, and the cost for the trade <$100.)

Yeah, I sold DELL once, and was back in almost immediately and it cast me 9/16! Still continued up from there, so I was OK!

Thanks for the post!
