Interesting take on the ckt brks, Jim. I'm not sure whether the "shorter" switches or "longer" switches make for more or less volatility. What's your opinion, did the shutdown in October exacerbate things or calm things down?

re brokers: the only place I feel safe investing my IRA in this market is in brokerage stocks- they're treating me just fine and I know their heart and soul is tied up in protecting MY stock. :-)
Look back at the last ten years- the only sector that consistently beats the S&P is brokerage stocks and big banks with brokerage operations. Better than tech stocks!
