Christine, I haven't read the study either but it seems very curious to me that NO major news media has reported on it. Don't you find that strange? I would be willing to bet had the study concluded second hand smoke did pose a significant health risk, it would have been page one news.

I'm a non-smoker so this issue really shouldn't matter to me right?

But it does and this is why. FREEDOM! I'm sick and tired of someone passing another law restricting our individual freedom under the guise of safety to the public. It started with seat-belts, then helmets for bikers, then helmets for bicyclists, and now second hand smoke, when will it end. When is safe, safe enough??

People die in bathtubs, shall we pass laws and enforce a two person rule for bathtub inhabitants??

Today I learned a tough lesson on why I cherish freedom above all else. We decided to ask our neihbors if they wanted their two young children to join ours in the easter egg hunt at the local park. They said yes, and hopped in the back of our Honda Civic. It's about a ten minute drive, less than 35 miles per hour. So I thought about it for a moment, and decided to strap two of the 3 year olds together in the rear seat belt, since the car only has five seat belts. Well you can guess what happened. We were stopped at the park gate and told we could not enter since the law states that only one person can use a seat belt.

Well there wasn't much I could do, so I told the wife that I would get out and walk the mile to the egg hunt contest. At least her and the kids could enjoy it. Needless to say, I missed the contest and watching my kids run after easter eggs.

I feel that part of the quality of my life was stolen today by that law. A law passed due to public safety, where common sense exceptions are simply not allowed.

America's freedoms are slowly being eroded by the enforcers of safety. What's next? Will we start issuing tickets to people who mow their lawn without ear protection and safety goggles??

Michael

p.s. You have a good point, my language could have been allot clearer when describing the prison inhabitants and sex-change operations.
