The real benefit to us with Java is the "write once, run anywhere" concept. We began our SCADA GUI development using the PC platform (DOS, Windows and Windows NT) as we saw this niche as the one for us to gain entry the quickest. Lately however, we have received more and more RFQs requiring higher performance platforms.

Rather than developing two separate operating platforms, it makes more sense to "write once, run anywhere". The Java operating system would be able to run on Windows, Unix or even Mac platforms.

In the first 3 months of this year we have received over $412 million in RFQs. For a small Company that is a remarkable compliment to our technology. Obviously we had to decline most of it, as the projects were just too big for us and the bigger ones are on Unix platforms. Moving to Java will let us migrate upward without duplication of effort.

Sun Microsystems sent their Java Guru to visit us and see our "Virtual Reality" GUI platform. He was astonished as he had no idea that anyone was doing the things we are. I am negotiating a JV development arrangement with them now.

The other advantage of course is the ability Java will give us to do real-time remote maintenance, worldwide over the net.

I have (jokingly) told our Asian customers that with this new development, if our system fails on a Friday, they can email us and we can dial in to repair it. As it would only by Thursday here, we have the ability to fix the problem before it occurs!

Regards,

JBS
