Holly, Smokers die earlier on average, thus saving the state on social security benefits and health care costs normally associated with caring for elderly people.

In countries like Canada and the UK where cigaretes are heavily taxed, smokers actually pay in to the system far more than they ever take out in healthcare costs etc.

>>"You read my mind. I was about to ask if anyone knew of a really nice way to die."<<

Holly, don't you know that non-smokers who jog three miles a day, eat lots of veggies, avoid ice cream, chocolates, hamburgers, steak, french fries, butter, bacon, potato chips, pastrami and pizza live to be 95 years old and never get any of those nasty diseases. They suddenly drop dead while jogging in their 96th year.

The bad news is if they violate any of the above rules they will be subject to arthritis, hardening of the arteries, Alzheimer's disease, deafness, cataracts, glaucoma, senility, tooth loss, sagging breasts, baldness, spare tire belly, loss of leg hair, new growth of ear hair, high blood pressure, involuntary peeing, and a bad case of grumpiness.
