Quite some time ago I saw an article that attempted to level the comparison pointing out just the things you mentioned. It also pointed out that the average worker in Japan has no pension plan. Sorry but I cannot remember whether it was something I read on the web or not. I guess you could do a search on Yahoo entering "Japanese savings" as the criteria but I suspect every hit would find the server too busy. <G>

Interesting thoughts. Suppose there is a huge tax cut. Japanese won't spend it, will they? That's why you think the fiscal stimulus is necessary, right? Where do you think they should spend the money, more roads and bridges? Does the government there need a lot of information infrastructure?
