U.S. Stocks Likely to Rise as Earnings Seen Exceeding Estimates
Wall Street expects the slowest profit growth in about seven years when the first-quarter earnings season begins in earnest next week. That's a recipe for a rally in U.S. stocks, investors say, because the analysts who work for big Wall Street firms typically cut their earnings forecasts by too much just before reports come out. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which closed above 9000 for the first time Monday, rose 0.1 percent for the shortened week, closing Thursday at 8994.86. Stock and bond markets were closed for Good Friday.
