All I know is I can take my analogue StarTac down to Australia and pay per minute and monthly rates which are 30% less than AirTouch corporate discount rates. If I actually signed up for Telstra service, I'd pay rates even 50% lower than that.

Somehow, "competition" in the US market has led to dramatically higher rates and lower quality service. I have no doubt competition in Australia will lead to rates even lower than present.

I think this is a tip-off that the US is not actually a market economy but instead a corporate welfare economy, public subsidies for private profit.
