well looks like more merger mania Monday in the banks.

(from the Matt Drudge report. WSJ also has come out w/ article on the Bank America merger)
MONSTER BANK MERGERS SET FOR MONDAY

The NEW YORK TIMES is set to report that NATIONSBANK CORP. and BANKAMERICA CORP. will announce marriage on Monday, creating the nation's first coast-to-coast bank, and the largest in terms of total branches and deposits. NATIONSBANKBANKAMERICA, first of two huge banking mergers expected in coming days, accelerates a wave of consolidations that will leave the banking industry with a few monster powerhouses.

The second deal, BANC ONE CORP. with FIRST CHICAGO NBE CORP., would create the fifth-largest bank in terms of assets.

well so much for picking the breakouts! IBM plunges and closes on it intraday low!(this was the stock best positioned to show leadership).INTC wallowing at the bottom of its trade channel pops up and closes below its(intraday) high.IBM-couldnt hold today-I really get spooked by that kind of action-I say look out below.INTC with earnings due out tomorrow(after close)-time segmented volume just popped positive-stochastics stopped diving and is going sideways(albeit in negative territory). Could it be that box co. are out - and chip co. are in. do you think andy grove is so gracious on the way out that he would talk down the stock for his longtime friend / replacement to look good even in a less growth environment? We will know in 16 hours but for now our leadership looks like it isnt coming from the breakout crowd but rather the theme might be "return from the depths". Or since it appears there is no real leadership it might be best to scream Look out below everyone!
