Neither one finished the whole thing before they were green in the face and gagging

Ah Delbert, you bring back fond memories of the very first cigarette I inhaled deeply. Unfortunately, I persisted until I got the hang of it. Still Smokin! Still in denial, but moving closer to thinking about quitting.

You did those girls a huge favour.

Del, it's good that your stop-smoking-before-you-start strategy worked. Now Michael will be trying it with his children, though!!

Personally, I think you just got lucky. I remember getting really sick and watching the room spin the first time I smoked, but I was eager to do it again because I liked the nicotine rush. I have heard that offering a significant bribe to a child if he or she turns 21 without ever having smoked works pretty often. That way the child has something tangible to think about in making a choice on that inevitable occasion when someone offers a cigarette, and helps the teenager resist peer pressure, I would think.

As purething has posted, sometimes it only takes one time, and the novice smoker is hooked.

As a former smoker (started at 14; smoked for 30 years) I'd say they should thank you. Maybe they didn't appreciate it at the time, but you did them a large favor.
