Some grass roots type information: I met with a brother-in-law and family for dinner yesterday. He is a superintendent with a large local saw mill that cuts custom lumber for the Japanese (70%) and U.S. (30%) housing markets. As they cut strictly custom orders, they do not inventory lumber.

They had shut down for 3 weeks this year due to declining markets in Japan. Last year they were down 3 months. Based on last years progress at this time, they are a bit ahead of where they were. While anything could happen yet, and it represents only a small part of the Japanese economy....

For what its worth.
