Whenever anything goes wrong mechanically, (& not just in mining biz), it is common to reach for a hollow steel tube to fit over the exposed handle of a tool attached to the immoveable object, thus lengthening the lever and doubling or tripling the effect of the existing muscle power and transfering it to the stubborn nut, bolt or boulder.

In the case of mules packing out the Auriferous ores, the bar is used "to get the stubborn mule's attention."

Surely you have an equivalent "cheater bar technique" at D&B, right?
