<<<HORRIBLY OT>>> Clearly, I Need To Travel More Often... In post #3550, may history record, I was looking for signs of creative thinking from the SEEK camp. Perhaps "an outright purchase" of a site with an established community, for I felt very strongly that SEEK needed to build community. WELL I HAVE NOW SEEN THE SIGNS!!! AND HOW!!! Yesterday was a "pitch and travel" day... so I had NO IDEA what was popping. Heck, EXPLODING would be more accurate. Congratulations to all a thousand-fold for having the patience to wait for our little friend to waken. Life is good, SEEKers (even when the stock isn't heading northward). Night before last, I ate at a Sicilian steakhouse in Norwood. It's called Sal & Vinny's. Grab some SEEK winnings. Go there. Ask for a squat, mid-50s-ish waitress named Selma, who has a voice somewhat like Rose Marie from the old Dick Van Dyke show. Get the stuffed pork chops. And a side order (huge, I might add) of provolone mashed potatoes. Then, watch Selma and listen. She has a glow and an obvious heart. (When you push away all the clutter--sweeping clean the dead leaves of disappointments and would-have-beens and could-have-beens--your eyes suddenly adjust to the world as it is. You see "obvious hearts" all around you. They are as angels among us.) My little trip was a gift to myself combined with a new business pitch (which makes for lovely travel and entertainment deductions, yes?). The gift to myself included seeing my father's two childhood homes for the first time: one in Springfield, the other in a suburb called Indian Orchard. I learned a lot of things on my trip. I learned that Vermont should have a sexual liaison tax (SLT) as it is obviously a place where one "weekends" the women in one's life (sorry for the gender-specific and orientation-specific references in that last line.) I learned that when you're driving 91 North from Springfield, if you turn right you go into New Hampshire. Which is a wonderful idea unless YOU'RE IN A HURRY TO GO TO VERMONT, that state to your left. I also learned that I wasn't in a hurry and that being lost in New Hampshire was a pretty wonderful thing. And, Vermont? Yeah, everybody kept telling me, almost apologetically, "Well, ya know, it's the AHHHFF (a variation of "off) season." What were they apologizing for? I also learned that, if I wanted to be unhappy, I'd probably live at one of those Friendly Restaurant stops along the Mass. Turnpike (or MassPike, for short.) Swing through one of those "built-in" stops along the Pike on a Friday night after, say, ten. They're clean and all. But, there's something hugely depressing about the places. Truckers making interesting deals in parking lots. Slope-shouldered kids from the local township just hanging out. Lone-gunman types pulling up from the mid-1980's with a look of disconnection or displacement, as if they'd been driving not just half the night... but for years at a time. Oh well, I've used up my allotted time. It's good to be back on the thread. Especially with SEEK in such a good position. And, thanks to those who inquired after me... wondering about my whereabouts. I think SI-ville could be one of those little townships on Route 5, founded in 1747, built around a village green. Where community is palpable. I am glad (immodestly) that some folks here enjoy my words. Now, I need a nap. Got in real late last night. Best Regards and GO SEEK! c m
