Telet group seen winning Brazil cellphone area

SAO PAULO, April 13 (Reuters) - A group including BCE Inc's (BCE.TO - news) Bell Canada was a shoo-in to win on Tuesday a license to operate cellular phone services in Brazil's southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul, analysts said.

Telet is expected to place an offer 50 percent above the 330 million real ($292 million) base price -- even though it basically has the sale sewn up. Its bid was made a year ago and renewed before its rival became disqualified -- and therefore is artificially high.

''I have heard their bid was around 500 million reais,'' said a telecoms analyst at a foreign investment bank in Brazil.
