As a point of clarification, the part of my post that you quoted had to do with phone to phone, and that is why I stated limited reach. Because they could only be made to where there were existing proprietary gateways. Of course, if it were PC to PC (or server to server), as you pointed out, then the reach would be anywhere on the Net, or wherever there were roaming capabilities in place.

But your point is absolutely correct, IMO. As things stand for the moment (and supposedly, over the longer term), the PC and server varieties are out of harms way when it comes to access fees, etc.

Eventually, in certain situations, and possibly increasing over time, servers will replace PC appliques and PBXs (in the business space), conceivably, as processing and networking nodes. There are actually too many variations to cover in a brief posting, and very likely many that haven't even been conceived yet. That's one of the reasons this whole area so intriguing. This is not one discussion; it's many discussions. <g>
