Damn straight. You should be at least thirty before you can be allowed to have sex with a fourteen-year-old.

Penni, you're right, a 16 and a 14 having sex doesn't sound too good at all.

I would guess the average age of uhm...non-virginity here at DAR to be 15 to 20; averaging 17.5 years.

We can't send me, at 17.5, to jail, as I was; (altho we can for refusing enlistment) (knew I was gonna snub that in) ~ we just can't. So what do we do?

It would be interesting to poll the average age of enlightenment here at DAR. And the first time people had carnal knowledge, too.

>>Sore spot-sore spot--penni has a sore spot.<<

I can think of maybe a million billion things to have a sore spot over that are worse than that, penni. While our kids are much younger than yours (we have a 4 year old and a 6 month old) my wife and I have talked often of how difficult it is going to be to raise our kids in a society that is so permissive and passes so many laws that undermine our ability to parent.

We may have differences when it comes to our opinions on the proper way to raise children (I really can't say if we do because I haven't read enough of your thoughts on the matter to know) but I do know we are in agreement when it comes to society and the legal system telling us they know more than we do what's best for our children.

Isn't it something that this decision came from a court in California?

Yes-it should be illegal for a 16 year old to have sex with a 14 year old.

I feel that guidance in matters sexual should be left to parents. I don't feel that kids should have an overriding "right" to get it on, if their parents are opposed, but neither do I feel that sexual activity should be criminalized. It isn't illegal for a 14 year old to get her nipples pierced, but I daresay many parents easily succeed in preventing her from doing it.

And another point: to be arrested for having an affair will very likely make the teenagers in question heroes to their peers, which is not necessarily desirable.

Anyhow: if the thought of getting pregnant isn't enough to stop 'em, the thought of being put on probation won't, either.
