Barney,
When I was in school, we had wonderful extracurricular organizations such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, among others. Our football games began with a prayer. Our graduation ceremonies always included a Bacculaureate (I KNOW I didn't spell that right...please don't flame me) service at a local church.

We sang carols at Christmas, and we even sang hymns in chorus.

We had the Ten Commandments posted at the entrance of the school.

All of that changed one day when someone sued our school system, and we were forced to remove ALL reference to ANY religion. The Ten Commandments came down, no more prayer, no more Religious affiliated organizations, nothing. Heck, the kids were not even allowed to dress up for Halloween for fear that it might promote Satanism.

I drove by my old school not too long ago, and it is a changed place. I think drive-bys and in school violence are at an all time high. Coincidence? I think not.

I can go along with the argument that Freedom of Religion is also extended to "Freedom FROM religion", but regardless of how you put it, children need spiritual guidance to be part of a healthy upbringing.

Just my opinion, and probably rambling at that.
