A warrant is like an option. It gives the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy a stock at a fixed price during a fixed period. Thus, you can control many more shares during that period for the amount you might have invested in the stock. The price is determined by the time value (how long until it expires) and the difference between the market price of the stock and the strike price of the warrant.

Hope this clears things up.
