michael--

the RBOCs dont care about ip telephony, they care about their local monopolies. the delays are because of regulatory issues.

GTE ILEC was an airball.

as for the ORCTF/ WSTL speculation...it would make a lot of sense for both companies. 1st, it gives ORCTF an in with BEL, which like it or not is, in this game, the big dog. GTE is nice, but they have to split a lot of that deployment with fujitsu (and yes,WSTL will likely have to split some of its depo with LU and DSC), which brings me to point two, that a combined company would have much more leverage with the big boys like LU, nortel and fujitsu.

DR TECH makes a good point, RE: why WSTL didnt get the GTE ILEC deal. fujitsu is on board with a frame relay deployable product, which WSTL doesnt have to my knowledge. from a cost standpoint, it makes sense for GTE to move slow and easy in the initial phases.

but, it doesnt look like fujitsu/ORCTF have a good DLC solution available yet. so, there is room for DSC or LU and WSTL to come in on some of that end.

we simply do not have enough data available right now. just be patient.

good luck to all,
trey
