DiviCom MediaView MV40 Wins "Editors' Pick of Show" at NAB '98; Innovative "Lookahead" Capability Sets New Standard for Digital Television

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1998--DiviCom Inc. (NASDAQ:CUBE), a leading provider of digital television solutions, received Television Broadcast Magazine's Editors' Pick of Show award at the 1998 National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas.

The editors chose to recognize DiviCom's recently-introduced MediaView(tm) MV40 program encoder for its "lookahead" statistical multiplexing feature as the best new product in its class.

"Our entire team has done an outstanding job developing and delivering this landmark product," said Tom Lookabaugh, president of DiviCom Inc. "The hard work and dedication of DiviCom's engineering corps has truly come to fruition. This is a tremendous honor, and one that we are proud to receive."

At NAB, DiviCom demonstrated DiviTrack with 10 channels of video programming, at full 704 resolution, in 20 Mbps of bandwidth.

About the MediaView MV40

Based on the powerful DVxpert(tm) platform by C-Cube Microsystems, the MV40 enables television service providers to optimize their transmission bandwidth.

The introduction of the MV40 encoder marks a significant break from previous program encoder solutions with DiviTrack, its innovative "lookahead" capability. The design of the MV40 harnesses the power of two DVxpert single-chip codec "engines" to first analyze program data, then use the data to perform a refined encoding operation.

The result is a precise match between program bandwidth requirements and bandwidth allocation. Using DiviTrack statistical multiplexing, service providers can offer more channels of programming while maintaining the same video quality or increase the video quality of their existing channels.

DiviCom Inc.

DiviCom develops and integrates products that make digital video networking possible. Products include audio/video encoding and decoding systems, and integration consulting and implementation services. Based on the MPEG-2, DVB and ATSC international standards, DiviCom's products enable digital video broadcasting over a variety of networks including satellite, wireless, fiber and cable.

DiviCom is a wholly-owned subsidiary of C-Cube Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ:CUBE), and both companies are based in Milpitas, Calif. C-Cube is the leading provider of digital video silicon solutions for the communications, consumer electronics and computer markets.

SGS-Thomson shows single-chip HDTV decoder. Also, Panasonic (CUBE partner?)............
techweb.cmp.com

<<SGS-Thomson Microelectronics' first HDTV
decoder chip, unwrapped earlier this month at the National Association of
Broadcasters (NAB) convention, integrates an MPEG-2
Main-Profile@High-Level decoder and an advanced display and format
converter into a single chip. SGS-Thomson (Lincoln, Mass.) jointly
developed the STi7000 with its strategic partner, Thomson Multimedia.

Panasonic AVC American Laboratories, the North American digital-TV
research facility of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., has developed, for its
internal use, a similar single-chip DTV video decoder integrated with a
format converter. The chip is capable of decoding and displaying
ATSC-specified DTV signals in native video formats or in down-converted
formats. Panasonic has not unveiled any commercial marketing plans for
the chip, however.>>
