My guess would be that ATI has secured design wins for Compaq's completely redesigned DeskPro line (business PCs), which is to be announced in the near future. Other PC OEMs are announcing higher end PII business PCs with a 100 MHz bus, probably also including design wins for ATI. Actually, I think ATI's results for the last two quarters are surprisingly good considering their chip design wins (Dell corporate PCs, Compaq and HP higher-end consumer PCs), while lucrative, do not amount to extremely high volumes (their add-in business must have been doing very well). Perhaps ATI has already been shipping chips for new systems yet to be announced. With the new design wins, one would expect ATI to ship greatly increased unit volumes at somewhat reduced profit margins per chip.
