Triton PCS Chooses Ericsson to Supply D-AMPS IS-136 Equipment; Contract
Valued at $200 Million

RICHARDSON, Texas, and MALVERN, Pa., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Triton PCS, Inc. today announced it has signed a five-year
contract with Ericsson Inc. for Ericsson to supply its D-AMPS 1900 system infrastructure for Triton's A and B band Personal
Communications Services licenses.

Based on TDMA IS-136 technology, the D-AMPS 1900 systems will be installed in Triton's markets in Virginia, North Carolina, South
Carolina and northern Georgia. The contract, estimated at $200 million, calls for Ericsson to supply and install base stations and mobile
switching centers.

''We were impressed by the great lengths Ericsson went to prove their commitment to us in providing the highest quality state of the art
digital wireless network,'' said Steve Skinner, Triton's President and Chief Operating Officer. ''Triton's personal communications service
network, when combined with AT&T, will provide the largest continuous digital system in the southeast.''

Triton PCS is AT&T's first licensed affiliate. Under the agreement, Triton is building and will operate a digital wireless network, enabling
AT&T's digital wireless service to connect across Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina as well as parts of the Washington-Baltimore
corridor and Georgia. Triton's network covers at least 11 million people.

''We selected Ericsson, one of AT&T's primary network infrastructure providers, because of the company's great reputation in supplying
enhanced digital networks. Ericsson's experience will enhance our ability to create a truly seamless network with AT&T,'' said Clyde Smith,
Triton's Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer.

''Triton has formed an exceptional management team with a solid reputation in our industry,'' said Skip Speaks, Ericsson's Executive Vice
President and General Manager, Wireless Communications Division. ''We are looking forward to working with them and supplying their
markets with the D-AMPS 1900 cutting- edge system.''

The D-AMPS 1900 system operates at 1.9 GHz. The features and functions of the 1.9 system contain advanced digital features, including
Caller ID, enhanced security and short messaging capabilities. Triton expects commercial service to begin in late 1998.

There are approximately 80 million subscribers using D-AMPS/AMPS networks worldwide. D-AMPS was the first technology to be
commercially available as a dual-band (800/1900 MHz) and dual-mode (analog/digital) technology. Eight million subscribers already use
D-AMPS digital services.

Triton, based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, is a member of the AT&T Digital Wireless Network, which is licensed to cover more than 80 percent
of the United States. Triton PCS was formed in August 1996.

Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries. Their combined expertise in fixed and mobile networks, mobile phones
and infocom systems makes Ericsson a world-leading supplier in telecommunications.
