Old news or new news, it's not good news. Off topic, I had a really bad experience with Apple today. Anyone have any ideas about this?

My PB 3400c/240 has been back and forth to Apple repair several times. Twice the motherboard was replaced, including the last time. This time the monitor separated from the body, partly, and there was smoke and burning smell. I sent it back using an Airborne box I had from Apple last time, but it was delivered a day late. I'm still trying to find out why.

Apple got the machine on Monday and would usually turn it around same day. This time they did not. They called me this afternoon to say that the motherboard had been changed to a G3/250, and they are keeping it till the matter is resolved. I didn't switch it and it was never out of my hands except to and from Apple. They want to charge me for the repair. I know of no way the switch could have occurred except by Apple repair or by Airborne.

I had put a $5000 value on the machine and the PowerBook boxes going to and from Apple are easily identified. I don't see why anyone would swap a bad G3 motherboard for a bad 3400 motherboard anyway. They are both under warranty.

I know that machine was never out of my sight and that no one else has had access to it. Some supervisor is supposed to call me back by 5PM tomorrow. I'm tearful and miserable, and angry. I can see this isn't going to be an easy fight.

I've written for all the major Mac magazines, when there were major Mac magazines, have been an Apple Partner and Developer and have loved the company since my first computer on 8/13/84, but this is the first time I hear myself saying I'll never buy another Apple product.

Actually, it is ancient news. KPMC had made a deal some time ago
with MSFT on the order of "you get our business if you dump
everything for our software". Surprised it has taken this long
for them to make the change in KPMC down under.

As it is KPMG not KPMC are we both talking about the biggest accounting firm in the World? The article said that Apple had dumped Ernst and Young when they previously had made the same switch.
