Mark,

MMDS operators have been trying very hard to change their image from analog wireless cable tv service providers to wireless broadband service providers. This, of course, entails a conversion from analog video to digital plus the integration of 1-way/2-way wireless data services. To that end, PCTV acquired additional spectrum in the most recent FCC auction (LMDS = 28 GHz) to complement its MMDS/ITFS operations in AZ. PCTV won bids for LMDS licenses in two markets (BTAs): the A-block (1150 MHz) in Prescott and the B-block (150 MHz) in Phoenix. The LMDS licenses should allow PCTV to deploy much more competitive 2-way wireless broadband services to businesses in these markets. Also, the LMDS acquisitions do not imply a problem with MMDS. Both MMDS and LMDS offer significant advantages and disadvantages over each other - so I view them more as complementary.

Regarding the sale of its analog video service contracts, PCTV appears to be trying to raise additional capital to fund operations and the development of its digital service offerings. I suspect that once PCTV sells a MDU contract, it forfeits the right to deploy digital services to those same customers.
