Linkon Receives $500,000 Internet Telephone Gateway Order To Provide Switched SS7 and GSM Functionality for US Telco
FAIRFIELD, Conn., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Linkon Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: LKON - news) announced today that it has received an order exceeding $500,000 for its LinkNet(TM) IP Telephony Gateway. The customer is Sequel Communications, Inc., an alternative international carrier and value- added service provider. Sequel specializes in trans-Pacific calling.
''This is a significant milestone in our transformation to becoming an IP Telephony company. We believe Linkon is among the first to market a commercial gateway with SS7 and E1 signaling switching and GSM compression capability targeted at telecommunications service providers. Sequel, with an international private network, experience in the Pacific Rim, and its own aggressive expansion plans, is well-suited as a customer and potential distribution partner,'' Said Lee W. Hill, President and CEO of Linkon.
''We were looking for an IP telephony gateway solution that would complement our existing infrastructure and allow us to take advantage of packet switched communications without compromising quality of service. Linkon DSP architecture with software upgradeability was very competitive in terms of performance issues like voice quality, low latency, echo cancellation, scalability and reliability. And, the fact that the LinkNet(TM) system integrates switching and compression functions onto a single telco-grade platform made the Linkon offering attractive from a financial perspective as well,'' said Eric M. Hernaez, Chief Operating Officer of Sequel Communications.
''To date, growth of IP telephony services has been restrained by the lack of truly scalable gateways that can interface with SS7. I believe the Linkon solution is well positioned to bridge that gap and allow service providers to start offering enhanced services. The world market for IP telephony gateways should exceed $240 million in 1998. This represents a tremendous opportunity for a company like Linkon,'' said Francois-Eric de Repentigny, Industry Analyst, Frost & Sullivan.
